"You've been spending too much time on the internet. Really, it's time to step away from the computer..."

I guess I should give my incessant web surfing a break and spend some time outside while the weather is still pleasant. Summer is quickly winding down, and it already feels like a change of the seasons is imminent.

Though I haven't seen this myself, I've heard reports locally of the leaves already changing colors at higher elevations, and it seems that the weather has been a bit on the cool side lately. I won't complain if autumn makes an early appearance... as long as it sticks around for a bit. The fall has always been my favorite season. If only winter wasn't close on its heels!

Odds and Ends

The website Dark Roasted Blend has an interesting photo exhibit of tiny cars from around the world

My favorite is this vintage Isetta ad. I wonder how difficult a time that little car had pulling a trailer through the mountains?

On a side note... Is anyone a little creeped out by that adult / child / mannequin that seems to be stuck in the back seat of the car while the happy couple is carousing out on the blanket?

Brad and I would eventually like incorporate a convertible camper into our military trailer. This is a really nice design called the Maggiolina from Autohome.

Odds and Ends

I seem to spend a little too much time surfing the internet these days, so I'll channel those energies to positive(?) use, posting some occasional items of interest...

First up, paper or plastic? How many people still get plastic bags at the grocery checkout? I still like to have a supply on hand to reuse for cleaning up after the dogs, but other than that, I'm a bit of a hippie and have been trying to tote along those reuseable fabric grocery bags... Plastic Bags Are Killing Us

Next up... the frugal lifestyle. Brad still balks when I tear paper towels in half since I don't need the entire thing, run around behind him turning off light switches, and try to sneak in a few compact fluorescent light bulbs wherever I can get away with them. Who doesn't like to save a few bucks here and there? Here is an article on 13 creative & simple ways to save at least $100 a week.

Do you often find the occasion to fly on commercial airlines? Or do so only once in a blue moon? Either way, you may want to check out the following website, which rates the best seats by plane type, and airline. Seat Guru

Have you ever heard of the freegans? They bring dumpster diving to a whole new level. I believe this is why the homeless camp in town is located in the woods directly behind the Kmart, Chinese restaurant, and grocery store. No such thing as a free lunch?

And this is an interesting video. A retired engineer has tried to prove that Stonehenge was built using basic principles of mechanics. It is impressive to see all that he was able to do on his own. This reminds me of the guy who built the famous Coral Castle in Florida in the early 20th century. Was he tapping into the same knowledge?

Too cute

Sitka and Kit enjoying the new fenced-in yard

...shortly after I rescued a turtle from their clutches. The wet spot represents one of the dogs licking its shell. This little guy was lucky enough to hide in his shell unscathed, and was later released by the creek,
